BTech

The Bachelor of Technology (BTech) program is one of the major programs in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. It is an eight semester program. Students enrolled in the program must finish a minimum coursework requirement as well as an internship. Students must also do a Major Technical Project spanning their seventh and eighth semester. A strong laboratory component is also present as part of the coursework.

For more information related to the program, please consult the manual.

M.Tech. The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering offers Master of

Technology program. It is a regular two years program. The students must earn a certain minimum amount of credits as well as do a research project in their chosen area of research. Towards the end, students must do a thesis presentation about their research work. The MTech program in SMME is offered in the following four specializations:

Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Energy Systems (MES)

Materials and Energy Engineering (MEE)

Fluid Thermal Engineering (FTE)

Electric Transportation (ET)

For more information related to the program, please consult the manual.

M.Tech (By Research)

The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering offers Master of Technology (by Research) or MTech (by Research) program in all research areas of mechanical as well as materials engineering. The MTech (by Research) program at IIT Mandi is designed to help scholars acquire in-depth knowledge by requiring them to undertake research work in a chosen area. In contrast to the MTech program, the MTech (by Research) program is research oriented. Students in this program are expected to submit and defend a thesis. In addition to the thesis, students have to complete a minimum number of course credits for courses related to their areas of research. This program has been subdivided into following broad areas:

Solid mechanics & Design

Thermo—Fluidics

Manufacturing

Robotics

Materials

For more information related to the program, please consult the manual.

PH. D.

The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering also offers the prestigious doctoral program. Students enrolled in this program earn a degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Students are expected to make an original research contribution of significance in their chosen area of research. They also must finish a minimum coursework requirement. The courses are chosen suitably by students to aid in their respective research work. Towards the end, students must submit and defend a thesis. The research activities for this program have been categorized into following broad areas:

Solid mechanics & Design

Thermo—Fluidics

Manufacturing

Robotics

Materials Engineering

Materials Science
